THE Malaysian Ice Hockey Federation’s (MIHF) journey to the 2011 Asian Winter Games in Kazakhstan has begun.

The MIHF President’s Cup ice hockey league will serve as a selection base to identify potential players to represent Malaysia in the Asian Winter Games.

MIHF president Datuk Lee Hwa Beng said they had formed a committee, headed by deputy president Haniff Mahmood, to draw up an intensive training programme towards the Asian Winter Games.

THE newly-registered Malaysia Ice Hockey Federation (MIHF) has received equipment worth RM40,000 from the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF).

IIHF research and development project co-ordinator Adam Sollitt and project manager Jorma Makipaa handed over the equipment — skates, pucks, gloves and ice hockey sticks — to MIHF president Datuk Lee Hwa Beng recently.

KELAB Hoki Ais Saga (Khas) has decided to start a fundraising programme for R. Murugan's medical treatment and kidney transplant.

Khas patron Datuk Lee Hwa Beng said they were concerned over Murugan's plight and were keen to help in all ways to lead a normal life.

“The best option is for him to have a transplant. We have spoken to him and he has made some enquiries in India. He needs about RM75,000 for the transplant. We hope the public will come forward to contribute to the fund,'' said Lee after handing over RM10,000 to Murugan after Khas' Ice Hockey Cares programme at the Pyramid Ice recently.

FAVOURITES Venom and Thunders clinched the Division One and Two of the Dexion Ice Hockey League finals at Pyramid Ice Rink in Sunway on Saturday.

Both sides secured commanding wins in their respective divisions in the league competitions that began in January.

MALAYSIA had an impressive outing in the inaugural International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) Challenge Cup of Asia in Hong Kong recently.

Malaysia was seeded fourth in the six-team championship for non-winter countries. Led by Gary Tan, Malaysia overcame the odds to bag the silver medal after three wins, a draw and a defeat.

Star, April 25, 2008...Dinner treat for Hong Kong-bound team

MALAYSIA Ice Hockey Federation (MIHF) president Datuk Lee Hwa Beng hosted a dinner for the Malaysian team taking part in the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) Challenge Cup in Hong Kong recently.

Lee was originally included in the Malaysian contingent as chef-de-mission but could not keep the date as he had other commitments.

Khas patron Datuk Lee Hwa Beng said Dexion Asia had been a strong supporter of ice hockey in Malaysia.

ALTHOUGH the final playoffs in the top and bottom divisions of the Adun Subang Jaya ice hockey league went according to the formbook, Thunders sprang a surprise in the Division Two at the Sunway Pyramid Ice Rink on Saturday.  

Fangs and Sunway Dragons both scored a double, winning the league and challenge trophy in Division One and Division Three respectively.  

Dec 18, 2007 ... Ice Hockey Selection Exercise

Malaysia will be participating in a national tournament to be held in Hong Kong in April 2008.  Therefore, we will be conducting a selection exercise for the Malaysia National Ice Hockey Team on the following dates:

*  Sunday, 13 January 2008 at 9.00pm

MAISIE Chui, who has played an active role in promoting women ice hockey players, has no plans to sever her ties with Malaysia. 

Chui, the chief marketing officer of Maestro Planning Solutions, will be based in Hong Kong from October. She has been entrusted with the responsibility of setting up Maestro Planning Solutions in Hong Kong.
