Star, Dec 18, 2007 ... Sports carnival to bind community together

THERE was laughter, running, and of course, sweat during the community sports carnival at the USJ12/2F field that was organised by the Residents Committee Zone 3 under the Subang Jaya Municipal Council (MPSJ). 

Youths in jerseys of red, orange and blue were pitting their skills against each other in football matches in the playing field while over at the basketball court at the other end, groups of three were battling it out in their nail-biting basketballchallenge.

FRISBEE disks flew across the field while supporters screamed themselves hoarse as they cheered for their respective teams at the inaugural Subang Jaya Community (SJC) ADUN–PIBG (Parent-Teacher Association) Ultimate Frisbee Fun Day. 

The event, held at the Subang Jaya Municipal Council (MPSJ) sports complex, aimed to create a setting where students, parents and teachers could build relationships and have fun together, to introduce students to a new sport that was fun, great for fitness and teamwork, and to build the sport of Ultimate Frisbee within the Subang Jaya community.

ALTHOUGH the veteran footballers of the Subang United FC formed their social side for regular kickabout sessions only a year ago, they proved their prowess when they lifted the inaugural Piala Datuk Lee Hwa Beng Subang Jaya Veterans football tournament at the Subang Jaya Municipal Council (MPSJ) sports complex pitch recently.

INSTEAD of remaining in their usual comfort zone of providing support on the sidelines, parents and teachers will be in for a more physically demanding challenge as part of the of players' line-up in the inaugural Subang Jaya Community (SJC) Adun–Parent-Teacher Associa-tion (PTA) Ultimate Frisbee Fun Day scheduled to be held at the Subang Jaya Municipal Council (MPSJ) sports complex on Nov 4.  

Tournament co-ordinator Douglas Ladner said each team would be required to field two teachers and four parents in their side which comprised 12 players.

A 15-MINUTE performance by young children, some only six years old, was the highlight of the National Figure Skating Championship at the Sunway Pyramid Ice Rink recently. 

About 12 children, from the Ice Skating Association of Malaysia (ISAM), so mesmerised the small crowd with their graceful moves that even Subang Jaya assemblyman Datuk Lee Hwa Beng, who officiated at the opening ceremony, could not hide his admiration for the kids. 

Star, Mar 7, 2007 ... Ice Hockey: All the right steps taken

MALAYSIA, for the first time, took part in the ice hockey programme in the Asian Winter Games in Changchun from Jan 28-Feb 4.  

The team, led by chef de mission Datuk Lee Hwa Beng, raised their own funds to participate in the Games. Malaysia finished eighth in the Games.
