KUALA LUMPUR : Datuk Lee Hwa Beng’s story is an inspiring one, especially for those who believe there are not enough opportunities to be successful in life.

Born in Kampung Tehel, Bemban, Malacca, Lee did not allow factors such as poverty deter him, overcoming the odds to earn professional accounting qualifications and setting up his own accounting firm.

With a longtime family involvement with the MCA, Lee rose to high office.

THE Malaysian Ice Hockey Federation’s (MIHF) journey to the 2011 Asian Winter Games in Kazakhstan has begun.

The MIHF President’s Cup ice hockey league will serve as a selection base to identify potential players to represent Malaysia in the Asian Winter Games.

MIHF president Datuk Lee Hwa Beng said they had formed a committee, headed by deputy president Haniff Mahmood, to draw up an intensive training programme towards the Asian Winter Games.

Looks like it is still a standstill at Newgate. We have receive many proposals to revive the project since last year. They include many of our corporate giants, however, the raising construction cost is hindering our efforts.

Now we have another proposal. They are seeking a top up of almost 30%. Again, this amount will hurt the buyers. But we have to look positively that steel prices have shot from RM2,400 per ton in January 2008 to almost RM4,000 per ton today. Cement has gone up almost RM5.00 per bag.

THE newly-registered Malaysia Ice Hockey Federation (MIHF) has received equipment worth RM40,000 from the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF).

IIHF research and development project co-ordinator Adam Sollitt and project manager Jorma Makipaa handed over the equipment — skates, pucks, gloves and ice hockey sticks — to MIHF president Datuk Lee Hwa Beng recently.
